made it home

We arrived home on Tuesday, August 4th.  We had a great vacation, was such a joy visiting Kathy and Steve and their family. Felt we really got acquainted with their family more. On our trip home we were hoping to hit some of the places we visited when we got married and on our Honeymoon, we did visit some, but did not opt for the Black Hills, as it was Sturgis rally and celebrating 75 years. They were expecting 1 million riders there.  So we decided to take the northern route home, drove on 212 across South Dakota. Even 30-40 miles away from Sturgis, the towns were over taken by bike riders. Just crazy, so nosiy and all over.  Even heading east on 212, I bet we met over a 1000 bikers heading to Sturgis. So that trip will have to be another time. It was go to get home, we got right busy and cleaned out the camper, and got things put away. Jay got the camper off the pickup on Wed. it was a nice home for a month, seems like we have lots of space now in the house. But the pickup camper worked great.
Now back to the real world, sweet corn is about ready, so will be working on that this next week.
Thanks to Bryan, the yard looked pretty good, and the garden was doing great. Until another time, hope everyone has a good rest of the summer. It sure went fast.

heading home

We have been on the road for several days now, have seen so many things. What a different terrain there is in the United States of America. We are now in Sheridan, Wyoming.  Last night we stayed in Buffalo Bill State Park, nice quiet place to stay, dry camping, but that works okay. We have everything we need in the camper. We stopped at Buffalo Bill Dam this morning, what a marvelous
place that is. We were there 50 years ago, and boy has it changed.  So many of the places we were at 50 years ago have either grown immensely or have closed up.  What a change. We headed up in the Big Horn Mountains, it was 90 in Cody Wy., before we headed up, on top of the mountain it was 69
we had our lunch there. Coming down the mountain the temps went up to 96, it was that when we got into Sheridan, Wy.  so opted for a Motel and order supper in. Nothing like being lazy, but it is our vacation you know.
We went through The Yellowstone yesterday, my has that changed, it is so much bigger at the lodge area and the crowds of people were unbelievable. Did get to see Ole Faithful go off, that was cool.
There were only a few rows of benches when we were here 50 years ago, now there are rows and rows of benches. Almost over-whelming.
We plan to get to the Black Hills tomorrow.
Kathy, just wanted to let you know we did see a Moose cow just north of Soldnota with twin calves when we left there that morning. let Mike know, he was trying his best to find one for me, even took that picture of the one near his tent.
We hope to get home Tuesday, have had a great vacation, but getting ready for home. Love to all.

Trip to Alaska,2015

It's been quite a while since I blogged on our trip, haven't had the best connections, so finally getting back to it.  We have had quite a trip, have had weather as cold as 43 and as high as 92, but mostly it has been really nice, cools down at night with good sleeping weather.
We got to Kathy's and had a great visit, then Jay and I headed to Homer, we stayed there 2 days, then headed back to Soldnota to "The Property". Steve and Mike came the same day we did. Kathy and Lisa and her family and Jenny came on Monday, July 13th.  It was so much fun camping with them all. Jay went fishing every day and got his limit each day but 2.  He caught 13 salmon altogether.
He sure enjoyed that. We spent 9 days at the Property with Kathy's family.
Sat., July 25th, we took off towards home. We got to Tok that night, next stop was in Whitehorse, stayed there overnight, then we headed to Watson Lake, got to Muncho Bay, stayed at a Provincial
Campground there, next stop was Dawson Creek, spent the night, then got to Red Deer and since it was storming, we decided we were staying in a Motel in Red Deer. Hope to get across the boarder tomorrow, then will be back in the lower states, will seem nice. We have had good traveling, did get to take the Alcon Highway back to Dawson Creek this time, we did see where the forest fire had been, right along the highway. Really bad.
It's been sure a fun trip, still have some things we want to see in the lower states, such as Yellowstone, Badlands and Mount Rushmore. That was the trip we took on our Honeymoon 50 years ago.  I am sure it has changed, but will be nice to check it out.
Hope we have better internet in the coming days. If not, we hope to be home the first part of Aug.
Just have to say, Kathy we had a great time with your family, thank you and Steve for sharing them with us. Love to all.

made it to Homerer

We left Kathy's this morning and headed to Homer, after our stop at Cabela's, Jay got his fishing supplies that he wanted. We drove through sun and showers. Got down to the Homer spit, was so
busy down that way, unbelievable. We ate at a restaurant called Happy Face, we had eaten there
6 years ago, it was still really good. We left the restaurant and went looking for a campground, ended up at Ocean's View Campground. Nice place, great view of the Cook Ocean. Saw eagles and people riding horses on the beach.  It was very pretty, talked to some folks from Indiana and Tennessee originally, then talk with a man from Wisconsin. Tomorrow we will head back to Soldonta and camp at Steve and Kathy's place"The Property". Looking forward to the rest of the family coming in the week-end and first of next week. Will not have internet for a while, we will be staying at the Property for about a week. Will get back on when I can.

made it to Alaska

We are at Kathy and Steve's place, got here Monday afternoon. We drove quite a bit out of the way to get here and had some interesting experiences. We got to Dawson Creek and spent the night, left the next morning, which this was Tuesday. We got as far as Fort St. John's and found out the road was closed north of us because of forest fires. So we decided to go a different route, took us out of the way quite a bit, but we decided not to go through the smoke with our breathing problems.
It took us a day longer to get to Kathy's, but we didn't see smoke but saw beautiful scenery.
We are staying at Kathy's till Wednesday then we will be heading down to Homer. We did not
go up to the Top of the World, because it was raining and was recommended that we not travel that
road when it rains, very mucky.
We thought we would enjoy Homer area more, will be going to the "Property, we will get there this week-end and spend the next week there.  Kathy's daughter, Lisa and family will be coming and also Jennifer and Mike. We have had some rain and nice weather, changes several times a day.
Don't know when we will have access to blog again, but will do the best I can.
We are having a good time and seeing beautiful things. Actually saw a grizzly bear along the
road, we got a good picture of him, have seen a couple black bears and fox, but that's about all so far.
Will try to keep you all informed.

First day on our trip to Alaska, 2015

We went to church this morning, Pastor gave us a blessing for our trip, we left the farm at 10:25 am.
Traveled to Nashua and got a sub sandwich for our lunch. Then we headed out, stopped at a Rest Area by Blue Earth, Mn. and had our lunch.  Got back on I-90 and headed west, the farther west we went the warmer the temps got. By the time we got to Sioux Falls, SD, it was 93', it was then we decided we were staying in a Motel this evening, don't camp when it's over 90 and very humid.
We drove to Champlain, SD, found a motel and got something for supper, then relaxed in our room.
We drove over 400 miles, not bad for just a part of a day. Hope to make more miles tomorrow.
Pretty tired tonight.  Hope you keep in touch with our blog, love to all.

Thursday, September 18, 2014

Well, I didn't get anything posted on Wed. but we did go to Lake Kego, got some crappies, sunfish, blue gills and a bass.
Jay got to clean fish again. He's getting faster at it.
Today we just fished at Little Boy Lake, went looking for northern, I got one and Jay got 3, and he also got a bass.
We have really enjoyed this resort. Nice cabin and area.  The lake took a while to figure out, but it worked better today.
Jay got to clean fish again, he knows the fish house quite well.
We went out for supper tonight, went to Patrick's. Couldn't eat it all, will have supper when we get home on Friday. We have everything packed up, not much left for in the morning. It's been a real
nice vacation.  Back to reality tomorrow.

Tuesday, September 16, 2014

Tuesday, Sept. 16th.
We went fishing at Lake Wini again, had good luck today also. We got our limit each of perch.
we came back to the cabin in the afternoon, Jay got to clean fish again. I am sure he is glad we are done fishing perch. Now he wants to  try crappies and northern.
We had fish for supper tonight, it tasted sooo good.
The weather has been just beautiful, 70' today, suppose to be nice tomorrow also.
Will keep you posted.

Monday, September 15, 2014

Monday, Sept. 15th.
We went to Lake Wini today and fished for perch, boy did we find the perch. We caught our limit each and threw back a lot.
It was fun catching them, but I don't think Jay thought it was that much fun cleaning them. Being I am not one of the boys, I don't clean fish.  I did wash and package them though. They will sure taste great this winter.  The weather was just perfect  today, couldn't of been much better.
We started out counting how many fish we each were catching, but today we gave that up and just
kept fishing and catching our limit.
Will  keep you posted.

Sunday, September 14, 2014

Today is Sunday, is was pretty out this morning, so we went out on the boat and tried our hand at fishing, NO luck!!!  I caught a few VERY little perch, threw them back. Jay caught one perch, same size. We got cold as the clouds moved in and the wind picked up. We came back to the cabin and had lunch and got warmed up. After lunch we decided that we would take a ride to Walker.  We checked out the Casino there, I actually won $12.  We decided to eat our supper there at the buffet. It was real good.
Wanted to let everyone know that we don't have cell service at the cabin. We can get e-mails though.
We did have cell service in Walker, so I called Bryan back, he had left a message.
We hope to have better luck tomorrow fishing, thought we would try out Lake Wini.
Will keep you posted.

Little Boy Lake stay

Good morning to everyone:
We made it to our cabin at Little Boy Lake.  What a beautiful place, the views are really great.
It was pretty cold, only 45-50' on Friday the whole way up here.  This morning it is 30', frost on everything. The loons were out on the water this morning, and the fog was moving, it was really pretty.
We are getting ready to go out fishing this morning, Jay is getting the fishing poles ready while I do some blogging.
We were told by the neighbors that there is fish, so we hope to get some this morning. We have internet service, and cable TV, but the phone service is no bars at the cabin, haven't walked around enough to see if there is any other places.
Will try to keep you informed about our stay. love to all.

Winter, would you please leave!!!!!!

I think this is the worst winter yet, we have had so much snow, cold, cold weather, so much wind, and now the drain has frozen. Our basement drain from the washer froze. Lucky, Jay is quite inventive, he has a barrel rigged up to take our washer water and drain it out the window and into the grove. We can only hope the septic tank doesn't freeze, our water is recording at 38-39'. So cold it hurts my teeth. Today it was 19' and you would think it was 35', it felt so good for a change. The only thing about it warming up is now the frost will go deeper, and freeze more things.
I pray every day that winter will leave, please dear Lord, hear our pray.
This week-end is the start of daylight savings time, at least we will have more day light.

      HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't believe it is 2014. I don't know where 2013 went. We have had some pretty cold weather
lately. It has been a long time since we have had weather like this. It has only been above 32'
2 days in the last 2 weeks. And now it is suppose to get -20 real temp tonight. Only suppose to get to
-10 next Monday and Tuesday. I got groceries so we are set for the duration.
We had out annual Christmas Eve get together with the cousins. It was real nice, had our soup supper
and just set around the table and visited. Jay and I have been having this for 33 years already.  Before that we always went into Grandma Weinbergs in Clarksville and before that we went to the farm(where Scott lives) after Christmas Eve at church. We have had this tradition for a long time.
I enjoy doing it and will continue as long as I can.
We had our family Christmas on Dec. 29th. It was so nice having everyone here(except out oldest
granddaughter was in Japan) but she did call that evening. That was nice. We had such a nice day, had fun and enjoyed the girls and families staying over night also.
Now I need to start taking down Christmas things and putting them away. Not as much fun doing that.
Hope everyone has a great 2014 year.

Day 11

Well, we arrived HOME this afternoon at 2:45 pm. Made good time, was hoping to miss the storm, we drove through some rain, but not as much today as we did yesterday. We had a great trip, saw lots of interesting things. It is always amazing to see how the land structure is in different parts of the United States. It is quite rocky and hilly in Maine, very pretty state.
Although we had a great trip, it is always nice to get Home. Things looked great here also. We are pretty tired tonight. Talk to everyone soon. Love to all.

Day 9

We travel along Hwy 20 most of the day across New York. Saw beautiful scenery. Traveled through New York farm land. Quite interesting. Was a relaxing drive. We are staying at a Super 8 tonight near Erie, Pennsylvania.  We received vouchers from the motel for the Casino next door.  We played and won enough to pay for our supper, with a little extra. Didn't loose it all this time. Having a good time.

Wednesday, October 2, 2013

We left the cottage this morning around 7 am. Had great traveling, the trees had turned more since we came here. The view was beautiful and very peaceful.  We stopped in Woodstock, Vermont and Dad got his REAL Maple syrup. Good time to walk around a little. We are in Saratoga Springs, New York tonight staying at a Comfort Inn. Ready for a break.

Day Seven

Today we just visited the close area. We wanted to rest up for the trip heading back home.  We decided to Steam our own Lobsters.  Dad did the lobster steaming on a gas burner in the front of our cottage. He did a great job, they were really good. We just relaxed the rest of the day.
We will be leaving Maine tomorrow morning, hope to get a good days drive in. It has been a great trip visiting Maine, what a beautiful state. Glad we toured Acadia National Park on Sunday, it was closed today. Feel bad for the people that have come to visit it.

Day Six

Today we made a day trip going to Quoddy Head Light House in Lubec, Maine. It is the Easternmost
Light house in the U.S.
This is the Head Harbour Light House in New Brunswick, Canada.  We crossed the border and did some sight seeing there.  Ate our lunch at a quaint little restaurant there also. Had a good day, the temps were in the 50's and 60's.

Sunday, September 29, 2013

We made it to our apartment,(cottage) at 4:20pm on Sat. was pretty tired, but really liked out place to stay. We unpacked and then went looking for a place to eat. We ate at a restaurant called The Fisherman's Inn.  Dad had his lobster meal, I had scallopes.  Both meals were really good. This picture is taken Sunday morning when we were ready to leave for the day.

This is a view from in Acadia National Park. We saw some very beautiful scenery. We ate lunch
at Jordan's Pond, a place right in Acadia National Park.
This is a picture of Schoodic Point in Acadia National Park. We saw it at low tide and then went back to see it at high tide, this is high tide.
We waited at Schoodic Point for the sun to set, it was beautiful. Sure slipped down fast, before 6:10 pm. It was getting pretty chilly waiting for the sun to set. Had a great day, we have many more pictures. The trees are really showing color. It was 68' today, beautiful day, a lot of people out and about. Can't believe how crowded it would be if it was summer season. They are saying it is really quiet now.
