Day 11

Well, we arrived HOME this afternoon at 2:45 pm. Made good time, was hoping to miss the storm, we drove through some rain, but not as much today as we did yesterday. We had a great trip, saw lots of interesting things. It is always amazing to see how the land structure is in different parts of the United States. It is quite rocky and hilly in Maine, very pretty state.
Although we had a great trip, it is always nice to get Home. Things looked great here also. We are pretty tired tonight. Talk to everyone soon. Love to all.

We traveled from Erie, Pa. to Logansport, Indiana today.  We drove through sunny weather, rainy weather three different times. Also quite hot weather, it was 86' in Indiana when we stopped for gas.
We will leave in the morning and should be home tomorrow later afternoon. Hope everyone stays safe with the storms  coming. See you soon.

Day 9

We travel along Hwy 20 most of the day across New York. Saw beautiful scenery. Traveled through New York farm land. Quite interesting. Was a relaxing drive. We are staying at a Super 8 tonight near Erie, Pennsylvania.  We received vouchers from the motel for the Casino next door.  We played and won enough to pay for our supper, with a little extra. Didn't loose it all this time. Having a good time.

Wednesday, October 2, 2013

We left the cottage this morning around 7 am. Had great traveling, the trees had turned more since we came here. The view was beautiful and very peaceful.  We stopped in Woodstock, Vermont and Dad got his REAL Maple syrup. Good time to walk around a little. We are in Saratoga Springs, New York tonight staying at a Comfort Inn. Ready for a break.

Day Seven

Today we just visited the close area. We wanted to rest up for the trip heading back home.  We decided to Steam our own Lobsters.  Dad did the lobster steaming on a gas burner in the front of our cottage. He did a great job, they were really good. We just relaxed the rest of the day.
We will be leaving Maine tomorrow morning, hope to get a good days drive in. It has been a great trip visiting Maine, what a beautiful state. Glad we toured Acadia National Park on Sunday, it was closed today. Feel bad for the people that have come to visit it.

Day Six

Today we made a day trip going to Quoddy Head Light House in Lubec, Maine. It is the Easternmost
Light house in the U.S.
This is the Head Harbour Light House in New Brunswick, Canada.  We crossed the border and did some sight seeing there.  Ate our lunch at a quaint little restaurant there also. Had a good day, the temps were in the 50's and 60's.

Sunday, September 29, 2013

We made it to our apartment,(cottage) at 4:20pm on Sat. was pretty tired, but really liked out place to stay. We unpacked and then went looking for a place to eat. We ate at a restaurant called The Fisherman's Inn.  Dad had his lobster meal, I had scallopes.  Both meals were really good. This picture is taken Sunday morning when we were ready to leave for the day.

This is a view from in Acadia National Park. We saw some very beautiful scenery. We ate lunch
at Jordan's Pond, a place right in Acadia National Park.
This is a picture of Schoodic Point in Acadia National Park. We saw it at low tide and then went back to see it at high tide, this is high tide.
We waited at Schoodic Point for the sun to set, it was beautiful. Sure slipped down fast, before 6:10 pm. It was getting pretty chilly waiting for the sun to set. Had a great day, we have many more pictures. The trees are really showing color. It was 68' today, beautiful day, a lot of people out and about. Can't believe how crowded it would be if it was summer season. They are saying it is really quiet now.

Day Three

This morning we started out on I-86 from Jamestown, New York in fog!!! It was pretty foggy
for several hours. Then the sun came out and we were see more color in the trees. This is a picture along I-86. We made it to Montpelier, Vermont.  We are staying in a Comfort Inn and Suites, when we got to the Motel, they didn't have any rooms left except the VIP Suite, they said if we wanted it, they would take off quite a bit, which they did, so why not! Quite the experience staying in something like this, it has a Jacuzzi, huge sitting room, huge kitchenette, bar, conference table and quite the bath,. We will probably never see something like this again. Tomorrow we will get to our apartment in Winter Harbor. The scenery is breathe taking, we have been traveling the off roads, not the Toll Roads.  Hope everyone is doing good.  Love to all.

Second Day

Well, we made it to Jamestown, New York this evening. We are staying at a Comfort Inn tonight.
We made pretty good time taking roads that weren't Toll Roads.  Saw some beautiful sights on the northern borders of the states. We hope to make it to Vermont tomorrow night. Saw the trees changing before our eyes, in Indiana, they weren't hardly turning color, as we got into Pennsylvania and New York, they were starting to turn color, really pretty scenery.
We are having a good time and things are going good.

First Day

Good Morning, here is our Motel Room we stayed in last night, Wed. Sept. 25th.
We were so tired last night that we didn't get any blogging done. We are here in South Bend, Indiana.
Made it around Chicago, lots of Toll Roads, going to find a different route today, no Toll Roads hopefully. Lots of traffic, but got along good. This is a Quality Inn Motel, nice place, comfortable beds.  We will eat Breakfast here this morning before we leave.

When we left home, we headed to Dad's classmate, Bruce Vosseller's place in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin.
We arrived there around 11 am.  Had a nice visit with them, we toured their home, then we went on a boat ride around their little lake that they live on. Very beautiful place and area. We went to lunch with them, then we headed out on our travel's East.

The week of July 20-26th of July, our whole family went to Okoboji Lake for a week of family time and fun. It was such a wonderful time with everyone there. When you get 22 people together for a week, one never knows. But it was wonderful. Everyone had a great time. There was so much laughing and teasing. What fun!!
Jay and I even went tubing, can you believe that!!!!!!! Jay wore his socks so his feet wouldn't get sun burned, and I kept yelling, going too fast!!!!! Every boat that went by us, gave us the thumbs up, we were the oldest ones out tubing that afternoon. Our oldest grandchildren thought it was cool, they even taped it. They kept saying, I can't believe it.
We had our family picture taken, Thank you Paul!!!!!!!!!!!!!  along with each family and grandchildren and our kids. It was so fun.  Thank you all for your cooperation and patience.
It was a wonderful week for Jay and I to have memories of for many years.
Thank you kids, grandchildren, love you all. You made our week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's still been raining!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nothing much has changed in the last few weeks, it is still raining most every day, we are up to 18.8 inches since April 1. I am so glad I have my garden in raised garden boxes, they are doing great, where my garden use to be, it is flooded.
We got our corn and beans I in the ground, they are growing, but they don't look the best. Actually, the beans look pretty good, but the corn has lots of open places.
There has been so many evacuations of towns around, we still have to be thankful for where we live.
New Hartford was evacuating today, town is flooded.
Kathy, are you fishing at the property yet?  Jay was just saying this morning, he thought the first round of reds would be starting about now. Think he wishes he was up there.
I am still waiting for the grand boys middle names and birthday dates, could you send them to me. I relative is putting a family book together.
Have a good summer.

Friday, May 31, 2013

Well, one would never know we had drought last summer, when we had less than an inch of rain from the 8th of April till late in August.
This year we have had from the 1st of April till today, 13.4 inches of rain. And more predicted, who can guess.
My strawberries are doing great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Actually everything in the garden boxes are doing good, if I didn't have them, my garden would have been flooded. We had our first broccoli last night, oh so good.  Now if it would just keep the sunshine out for several days, we could get the corn and potatoes cleaned out in the garden at Bryan's. Pretty muddy there.
Pray for sunshine.

Happy Memorial Day to Everyone!!!!
We usually go camping over Memorial Day week-end, and this year was no different.  We camped in Decorah over the week-end, camping Paula and Rob and Jaydin, and Bryan and Austin.
Debbie & Paul and Amanda, Teagan, Jesup, Christian and Matilda. It rained and rained and rained!!!!
Thank goodness we had a hard covered camper, Bryan and Austin camped in their tent for 2 nights, Paula's stayed with us in the camper for two nights, then they had to go home, so when Bryan's tent dryed out on Sunday, he put it away and they stayed with us on Sunday night.  We were glad the kids could camp with us, had a good time anyway. Just wish is hadn't been so cold and wet.
It rained the whole way home and we had 1 1/2 inches of rain in the rain gauge when we got home. We had had sooooooooooo much rain lately.  Last year we couldn't get much of a drop, this year it doesn't want to shut off.!!!
Hope everyone had a peaceful week-end.

Thursday, May 16, 2013

I know they say, just wait a day in Iowa, and the weather will turn different.  They are RIGHT!!!!!!!
Last Sunday, May 12, it was 30' out with a little frost when we went to church..  Monday it was very windy, and started to warm up, in the 60's and 70's.  Tuesday we took off for Decorah, our favorite place to camp, and by 2 pm in the afternoon it was 97' and very hot!!!!! How can that be, frost one day and two days later record high temps.  Wed. came in with 70's, just beautiful, so we had some great weather for camping. Suppose to stay in the 70' for a while, can handle that.
Happy Mother's Day out there to all the great Mother's I know.
Our garden is doing great, we are planting sweet corn today. Lots of things are up already, and eating asparagus too.  Sooooo good!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Friday, May 3, 2013

This is just crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It started snowing yesterday, yes, May 2, and snowed all day, all night and is still snowing this morning. It melts a little , but we still have 4-5 inches on the ground. it hovers around 30-33 degrees. You would think it was December out side instead of May.
And we are lucky, some places got 10-12 inches of snow.  Only in IOWA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Next week it is suppose to be in the 60's and 70's.  I can hardly wait......
Please Mother Nature, be nice to us.  It's been a lonnnnnnnnng winter.

Tuesday, April 30, 2013

Well, it finally seems like spring, the weather has been pretty nice the last couple days, actually we had a great week-end. We got our potatoes planted along with broccoli, onions, radishes, spinach, and kolorabi.  We got mulch and mulched around the garden boxes , raspberries, strawberries and apple trees. So nice to be able to work outside. Really tires a person, but sleep comes great.
I got the flower gardens all cleaned out today and now we hear on the weather that it is only suppose to be in the 40's tomorrow. With a chance of snow on Thursday. I can't believe how strange this spring has been. The farmers were just getting started on planting, I am sure they will go until it starts raining or snowing again.
The grass sure has turned green and grown. Here tomorrow it is May 1st. where has the time gone.
Keep thinking spring.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tuesday, April 23, 2013

Here it is almost the end of April, and what is this with the weather!!!!!!!
We only had 32' this morning, was 59 yesterday.
We are so waiting to get outside and do some yard work, probably will say differently when the time does come, but come on Spring,  where are you??????
Don't have much to report right now, just waiting impatiently for spring.  We are working at the church food stand sale today, maybe that will help keep us busy.
It's not that we aren't busy, just want to do other things.
Come on MOTHER NATURE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   BRING US SPRING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Friday, March 29, 2013

It's finally starting to look like spring around here, there is still a little snow in the piles, but the flat area's are disappearing, yah, yah!!!!!!

Everyone is soooooooooooo ready for spring around here!!!!

Want to wish everyone a HAPPY EASTER, ENJOY THE SPECIAL DAY!!!

We are having dinner here for around 18 people, looking forward to seeing everyone.

HAVE A BLESSED EASTER!!!!!!!

Monday, March 18, 2013

I was told I haven't blogged for a while.  Which is true!!!!!
I don't know where the time has gone, but here it is almost spring,(although I looks like winter right now.)
I am sure ready for spring!!!!!!!
We just got back from a trip to Virginia, visiting Jay's cousin.  Jay's brother and wife went with us. We had a good time.  It did rain everyday we traveled out, the rain just kept following us.
But the time we were out there it was really nice, in the 60's and 70's. We stayed with the cousins for a couple days, then headed out south to N. Carolina, Tennessee, Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas and then back to Iowa.
The trees were just starting to bud, there were some flowers out, and the birds were great to watch.
But on Sunday, the weather caught up with us again, and it rained, and rained. So we decided to head home, only to come upon SNOW, doesn't the season know it's going to be spring in two days!!!!!
We had a great trip, but also nice to get home.
Will try to keep up better with the blogging.  Everyone say a prayer for spring to come!!!!!!!
